🚧 Easter 2025: Major S-Bahn Disruptions in Munich Due to Construction in Laim

Planning to ride Munich’s S-Bahn during the Easter weekend? Be prepared: from Friday evening, April 18th, to Tuesday morning, April 22ndno S-Bahn trains will run on the western section of the Stammstrecke (the main trunk line) between Pasing and Donnersbergerbrücke.

These disruptions are due to ongoing construction work in Laim, where Deutsche Bahn is preparing track 2 for service, installing cables, signals, and overhead line systems.

  • Start: Friday, April 18th, 2025, at 22:40
  • End: Tuesday, April 22nd, 2025, at 04:40


🚆 Line-by-Line S-Bahn Changes

Here’s how each line will be affected during the construction:

– S1

  • Runs only between Hauptbahnhof and Freising/Airport
  • No stops between Moosach and Hauptbahnhof

– S2

  • Operates in two separate segments:
    • Petershausen/Altomünster ↔ Heimeranplatz (every 30 minutes, no stop in Laim)
    • Hackerbrücke ↔ Erding

– S3

  • Runs in two segments:
    • Mammendorf ↔ Pasing
    • Donnersbergerbrücke ↔ Holzkirchen

– S4

  • Operates only between Geltendorf and Pasing

– S5 + S7

  • Combined into one continuous line:
    • Direction Kreuzstraße = marked as S5
    • Direction Wolfratshausen = marked as S7

– S6

  • Runs between:
    • Tutzing ↔ Hauptbahnhof (no stops between Pasing and Hauptbahnhof)
    • Ostbahnhof ↔ Ebersberg

– S8

  • Runs between:
    • Herrsching ↔ Pasing
    • Donnersbergerbrücke ↔ Airport

🚌 Replacement Transport & Alternatives

  • Shuttle buses every 10 minutes will connect all stations between Pasing and Hauptbahnhof.
  • S6 and regional trains will serve as express alternatives without intermediate stops.
  • U-Bahn alternatives:
    • Use U3/U6 from Moosach
    • Use U4/U5 from Heimeranplatz
  • Real-time trip planning available via the DB Navigator app and MVV journey planner.


🆕 New Wayfinding System

For the first time during Stammstrecke construction, Deutsche Bahn is introducing large purple info columns(“Infostelen”) to help passengers navigate:

  • Installed at all major replacement bus stops
  • Include maps, QR codes, and directions to bus locations
  • Help passengers easily transfer between train stations and bus stops


🔧 Additional Construction Work During Easter Holidays

Besides Laim, other works will affect the network during the spring break:

  • April 12–13: Bus replacements between Ostbahnhof ↔ Trudering/Johanneskirchen due to signaling work
  • April 18 (Good Friday)S8 replaced by buses between Pasing ↔ Gilching-Argelsried for cable work
  • April 26–27S3 interrupted between Deisenhofen ↔ Holzkirchen due to bridge work, with bus replacement
